How Clonakilty Favour Exchange Works
Three steps to CFE heaven!
1. Set up your members page
First have a look over our rules to make sure you agree with them. Next, send your details to us by email (see 'contact us' page). You will need to include a brief message to introduce yourself to other members and a list of the skills or jobs you are offering to do. See our 'Skills List' page for ideas. Include a note of any qualifications or experience you have if relevant. We will also need your contact details, preferably an email address and phone number, so that members can contact you to ask for or offer favours!
Once your page is up on the website we will email existing members to let them know you are there and that you are available for exchanging.
It is up to members to agree before-hand how many favours the work will take (15 minutes work is one favour). Any cost in terms of materials (paint, ingredients, petrol etc) will normally be borne by the person for whom the favour is done.
3. Keep in touch
When you do work for another member, email or text us to say what work has been done, for who and for how long and we will alter the favour balances accordingly - a debit for them and an equal credit for you.
N.B. You don't have to return favours to members who do favours for you - you can help anyone in the scheme in return. As long as you put in as much as you take out, you will keep your favour account in balance.
Finally, all members are entitled and needed to take part in community projects, administrative and promotional work for CFE. Favours can also be earned for this work. The committee will always be glad to hear from you with ideas or offers of help to keep the project going.
To join, or to ask for more information, please follow the link here for contact details and registration form.

2. Start exchanging
Then you are free to call on anyone on the list to ask them to do a favour for you. To find out what members do is easy. Go to the members' page and read over the skills and help offered. Or if you have a particular skill in mind, click on any of the Favour Directory tabs (see right-hand side of screen) to find a list of members who offer that work. Or, to search for any key word or name just use the search box- also on the right-hand side-bar.

Don't worry about going into debt - as long as you keep within the 100 favour debit or credit limit it's fine. The scheme works best if members actively engage with each other to build the CFE community.
You may also receive calls from members to do favours for them. The membership coordinators will be in touch regularly to help ensure that all members are participating equally.

Don't forget to tell us when the job is done |

Morag Mackay
Hi, my name is Morag and I live in a recycled wooden house my husband and I built and in fact are still building! I am delighted to be able to join the Clonakilty Favour Exchange and feel strongly that this is an idea whose time has come! Skills to Exchange I can offer hourly sessions of the Metamorphic Technique. This is a gentle, non-invasive and relaxing session working on the spinal reflexes of the feet, hands and head that provides an environment in which transformation can occur, helping us to move beyond outdated and limiting patterns and to better realise our full potential. People are often drawn to the Technique in times of difficulty, career changes, moving house, divorce, bereavement or illness. Many find they cope better in these periods of transition. Some may wish to make deep inner changes without having to analyse the past, others find that in times of stress they are able to deal with situations more effectively; above all, people become more creative with their life. Qualifications and experience I have been a practitioner of the Metamorphic Technique for the last 25 years and a teacher of this work for 17 years. I have also trained in and taught a wide range of bodywork therapies for many years as well as facilitated various types of self development workshops. Contact details moragmackay1@eircom.net |

Cloud Atlas cinema trip Friday 22nd Feb
Clonakilty Favour Exchange Book Club and Film Club proudly invite you to a special evening of film and chat. This Friday the book Cloud Atlas, written by honorary member David Mitchell and the first book to be discussed by the book club, is being screened in its new all-star film version at the Park Cinema Clonakilty.
Join us outside the Park cinema (behind The Quality Hotel) at 8.00 pm on Friday 22nd Feb to see the film (starts at 8.20) and for a discussion afterwards.
The film lasting 2hr 44min and Rated 15A - and classed as a Drama/Scifi/Fantasy Directed by the (Matrix Trilogy team) Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski - stars variously Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D'Arcy, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant
"The film explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. Each member of the ensemble appears in multiple roles as the stories move through time".

Favour Exchange Workshop with Constantin Gurdgiev at Kilkenomics 2012
Kilkenny may have The Marble, but here in Clonakilty we have The Favour!
The Kilkenomics festival (click on that link for the full programme) celebrated its third year of bringing economists and comedians together to laugh and cry over the dying days of our economic system. In keeping with the solutions-focused theme of this year's festival the top fringe event brought something more positive - "The Economics of Goodwill".Flanked by the rapid rise in community exchange systems in Greece and Spain as well as in the US, UK and France, Ireland has made its own unique addition to the LETS and Time Bank explosion: the Favour Exchange. Started in Clonakilty this year, already Favour Exchanges have sprung up from Dublin to Listowel via Cork and Killarney.
The workshop took place at the Pembroke Hotel on Saturday 3rd November. Speakers included founder member and staunch supporter of the favour exchange movement, Constantin Gurdgiev and Bev and Miriam from the Clonakilty Favour Exchange.
The first ever minted Favour is spent - on chocolate! |
